Carlos Beltran Moving To Right Field
Carlos Beltran has told Mets manager Terry Collins that once he is healthy enough to play he can make the move from center field to right field.
Collins gave Beltran the chance to show that he had the mobility to play the position after his surgery in January of 2010, but it appears Beltran has made the decision himself to move over. Beltran has played a total of three games in RF over the course of his career, each of which occurred in 2000 as a member of the Royals.
Beltran is in the last year of a seven year, $119 million contract and Angel Pagan will take his place in center field.
Miguel Cabrera To Make 2011 Debut at DH
For the first time this spring, Miguel Cabrera will be in the lineup for the Detroit Tigers. After being arrested on February 16 for suspicion of driving under the influence, Cabrera missed the first week of Tigers' camp.
Cabrera hit in batting practice before Sunday's game against Toronto and will be the Designated Hitter in Monday's game against the New York Yankees.
Last season, Cabrera finished second in American League MVP voting.
Gerut Retiring After Six Seasons
Jody Gerut is retiring after six seasons in the major leagues.
Gerut played for five teams before being invited to spring training as a non-roster player by the Mariners.
He appeared in 574 games in stints with Cleveland (2003-2005), the Chicago Cubs (2005), Pittsburgh (2005), San Diego (2008-2009) and Milwaukee (2009-2010).
"Physically I'm fine," Gerut said in a statement from the Mariners.
"But mentally my reasons for wanting to be in uniform have become so thin and narrow that I refuse to disrespect the game that has provided so generously for my family by playing it in a halfhearted way."
Webb Has 'Good' Mound Session
Rangers pitcher Brandon Webb had a "good" mound session on Sunday and can finally see the finish line.
Webb has only pitched a handful of innings over the last two seasons.
Asked if Sunday's 26- to 28-pitch session was a breakthrough, Webb said, "I think so. I think it was a good day. It's definitely a step in the right direction."
He tried to come back too quickly last season and was constantly hit with setbacks, which is why Sunday's session with no pain or glitches was so encouraging for him.
"It was good. Zero issues. Felt really good," Webb said. "Threw some changeups. Felt fine, didn't want to stop so that was good."
Francona Steps Into Jenks-Guillen Feud
Red Sox manager Terry Francona has stepped inbetween reliever Bobby Jenks and White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen.
Jenks and Guillen have feuded in the media this spring after the reliever left Chicago and signed with Boston as a free agent.
"That's over," Francona said. "I spoke to Bobby, actually went back and forth with Ozzie, not speaking, but messages. I'm confident that will be over.
"I don't care if they like each other, but Bobby is a Red Sox and we need to move on. I think [Guillen] understands that.
"Just making sure it goes away. It doesn't need to happen."
Cabrera Will Face Yankees Monday
Miguel Cabrera will make his spring debut on Monday against the Yankees.
Cabrera will serve as Detroit's designated hitter.
He missed the first week of camp after being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol Feb. 16 near Fort Pierce, Fla.

Dodgers' Duke Snider, 84, Dies
Duke Snider, the longtime center fielder for the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1980, died on Sunday morning following an undisclosed illness, both the Dodgers and the Baseball Hall of Fame have announced. He was 84.
Snider was the Dodgers' primary center fielder from 1947-62 and generally is considered one of the greatest among a long line of superb players who have worn the Dodgers uniform during the franchise's long, storied history, as reported by ESPN.com.
Chipper To Serve As DH For Braves
Chipper Jones will serve as the designated hitter for the Braves on Sunday against the Mets.
"Hopefully two at-bats, maybe three," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "It depends how the game goes, and we'll go from there."
The third baseman will serve as the designated hitter in order to limit the stress placed on his surgically repaired left knee.
Guillen Sounds Off On Jenks
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen responded to comments made by former closer and current Boston reliever Bobby Jenks on Saturday.
In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Jenks was critical of Chicago's front office.
?First of all, he can?t make any comments about last year because he was never in the clubhouse. He spent more time in his house than he was in the clubhouse,? Guillen jabbed.
?The only thing I can say is I feel bad for him because I think the way we treated this kid, just the White Sox, myself, our front office people ... we helped him a lot, on the field and off the field.?
Guillen was just getting started.
"It?s very sad because he should look at himself in the mirror and all the things he said in the paper to realize what he said. Like I said in January, if there was one player I ever managed, I do more stuff for him than anybody else on the field and off the field."
